Sunshine Blogger Award

This week I have been nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by Teeshares. For those who don’t know what the award is, I googled it πŸ˜€

The Sunshine Blogger Award is given to bloggers by other bloggers, who are creative, positive, and inspiring and bring sunshine into the lives of their readers and fellow bloggers.

Pretty cool, huh? I’m beyond thrilled to receive this award! When I started blogging I thought if only one person in the whole wide world would read my posts and find some inspiration in them, then my mission is accomplished. Receiving this recognition is therefore beyond my wildest blogging dreams, at least at this stage when I still feel like I’ve only just started! It might not be a big deal, but it is a big deal to me πŸ™‚ and I really really appreciate it.

So… here comes the speech πŸ˜€ First of all, thank you so much to TeeΒ for nominating me and acknowledging my writing in this way. And thank you to everyone who read my blogs, who take the precious time out of their day and invest it in my writings. I feel humbled and honored because there are so many other things you could do instead.

Here are the 11 questions the lovely TeeΒ asked me and my answers:

What made you start your blog?

4 reasons actually:

1) I realized writing is what keeps me sane. I might not write for living (yet), but I write to live.

2) I wanted to help bring awareness towards films (especially indies) that are not so well-known but deserve to be seen and talked about.

3) I wanted to inspire people! And share what I have learned along the way.

4) Β I wanted to show people how to use films as a source of inspiration. Because behind every film, is a story and behind every story is a certain experience or hope. And in every experience lies an inspiration.

What’s your most favourite post you’ve written?

My personal favorite is probably A True Love Story and how it all began.

What are your top 3 hobbies?

Spending time in the kitchen cooking & baking, traveling the world and reading (not mentioning films which are my hobby too, but as that’s pretty obvious and also my profession, I decided to give you another three to make it more interesting πŸ˜€ )

If you were to name one person as your favourite person, who would they be AND WHY?

The person I call My Mr. Big. Because he reminded me of who I am and that the only obstacle in my life is myself.

What’s your favourite colour?

If you were to eatΒ one food itemΒ for the rest of your life,Β what would that be?

Chocolate (surprise!)

Who did you look up to growing up, and why?

Hmm. Tough one. Does it have to a be real person or would Michaela Quinn M.D. do? πŸ˜€ Ok, let’s be serious – I think my sis. She was the big sis and that alone made her cooler than me.

What’s your biggest wish in life?

To be happy and make everyone around me happy, too.

Do you believe in love at first sight?

I guess so. It never happened to me, but it happened to the people I know.

What are you most proud of in your life?

My three (huge) cats πŸ˜€ I never had a cat before and I knew nothing about them when these three came into my life and the fact they are such wonderful, healthy and well-behaved toms now is something I take great pride in.

What’s been your favorite holiday destination so far?

New York City

Now I’m so happy to return the favor and nominate another 11 bloggers for the Sunshine Blogger Award. Here are my nominees:

  1. Many thanks for the surprising and most flattering nomination. I had absolutely no idea that I brought sunshine into your life!

I don’t actually do awards, as in passing them on, but I am happy to answer your questions here.

    1) I started to blog when I retired in 2012. I had left London, and work, and wanted to keep my mind active. The thing I like most is the sense of community that comes from interacting with people from all around the world.
    2) As I am now 65, I don’t really have any goals. Other than to live out my remaining years peacefully, with as little stress as possible.
    3) I was taken to the cinema by my parents from a very young age. We went every week, and I don’t honestly recall the first ever film. However, I do remember the first ‘big’ film I went to see. It was ‘The Ten Commandments’ (1956) and I would have seen it about two years after release, when I was 7. It stayed in London cinemas for a long time.
    4) Currently, it is ‘Blade Runner’. Such a great concept, as well as amazing sets, and superb direction from Ridley Scott.
    5) Not really. I try to keep entertainment and life separate, where possible.
    6) I don’t really have any guilty pleasures that I consider to be such.
    7) I started out wanting to be a French or History teacher. But I took a different turn, and spent most of my life as an EMT in emergency ambulances, in London. I did consider becoming a member of parliament later on, but there was no party far enough to the Left to accommodate me. πŸ™‚
    8) Outside of the UK, I would have to say Barcelona. But I doubt I would live there.
    9) My biggest inspiration was a teacher at my school, who later became a firm friend. He taught me not to bow to the expectations of others. Sadly deceased now.
    10) Probably Singapore. I liked it there.
    11) A complex question. For me, the absence of stress and worry in life equals happiness. You can be rich or poor, alone or in a relationship, but stress and worry can ruin anything. So not having those can bring happiness.

Thanks again, and best wishes. Pete.

  2. “1) I realized writing is what keeps me sane. I might not write for living (yet), but I write to live.”

First of all, thank you so much, and secondly THIS. THIS is so true for me. I write because I have to, because it comes pouring out of me and makes everything make sense. If I write about it, I can understand it. It’s why I started to blog. I missed writing and I needed to find a place where I could just… waffle.

I think my biggest goal in life is to live a good life. That seems like such a trite thing to say but it’s true. To somehow make the world a little bit better by being in it. Somehow. I’m not sure how yet. To leave a positive footprint behind me as I pass through this life. I think that’s a decent thing to strive for.

I can’t remember the first film I saw in the cinema, but my favourite films are (in no order – they all tie for first depending on my mood) Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, When Harry Met Sally, Full Metal Jacket, and True Romance. I think there’s something there for everyone! When I was a child my favourite film was The Goonies, and I watched it all. the. time! I think Cinema Paradiso led to a bit of a paradigm shift for me, and certain documentaries – Virunga, Taxi to the Dark Side, and Dear Zachary spring to mind – definitely made a lasting impression.

My favourite guilty pleasure has got to be HGTV. I can’t watch it from here (Ireland) but anytime I go to the US I watch it every chance I get. Fixer Upper, man. All that shiplap… and the goats… and the chickens… I mean…!

I used to want to be a vet when I grew up because I have a crazy love for animals, but once I grew old enough to realise that job would involve putting down some creatures I went right off that idea! For a while I wanted to be a truck driver, but then I realised I would get lonely and it might be boring. I’ve had some strange job aspirations through the years! I think now I would like to be a content creator/digital marketing exec but we’ll see.

My favourite place in the world is Madrid. I would happily live there. It is my soul city and the place where I feel most at home. I love it. It was also the home of my Yayo (my grandad), who was probably my biggest inspiration. He came from a dusty village in rural Spain and became one of the first commercial pilots. Flew Madrid to Mexico and Madrid to New York. Broke flight records, wrote poetry, and brought up a fine family. Died three years ago having met eleven (!!!) of his great-grandchildren.

Happiness to me means only small-time worries. Nothing that can’t be overcome, no blindsiding grief, no gnawing panic. A happy home, with Scrubs and the two goofy goobers. Good health, good friends, and good food. A holiday every so often to recharge and reassess. Respect, and gratitude. I think that’s probably happiness to me…

    • Hey Quinn! Thanks so much for all your answers πŸ™‚
Your grandpa sounds like a wonderful man, you must miss him dearly! But you’re lucky you’ve had a man like that in your life ❀

As for the goal in our lives – exactly!! To leave a positive footprint and make the world somehow a little better.. In fact, I wish it was everyone's goal cause then surely the world would be a much better place πŸ˜‰
